Streaming to WMP and RealPlayer

As you know, not everyone are using the great media player Winamp. There are alot of PC users who use Windows Media Player (WMP) and RealPlayer. So you have to provide comfortable tune in to your Shoutcast radio station for such users too.

WMP is using .asx format to connect to the stream and RealPlayer is using .ram so let’s create these files!

Create file listen.ram and add the following line in it:

http://SHOUTCASTIP:PORT/listen.pls

Create file listen.asx and add the following lines to it:

<asx version=”3.0″>
<entry>
<ref href=”http://SHOUTCASTIP:PORT” />
<title>YOUR STREAM TITLE</title>
<author>YOUR STATION NAME</author>
<copyright>ANYTHING HERE</copyright>
</entry>
</asx>

You will have to change SHOUTCASTIP:PORT with your real shoutcast IP address and port.

Then upload created files to your website’s root directory and add following code to your page:

<a href=”/listen.ram”>Listen with Real Player</a><br />
<a href=”/listen.asx”>Listen with Windows Media Player</a><br />

So it will look at your page like this:

Oh yeah, if your webhosting doesn’t have these mediatypes setup by some reason you can do a simple trick to enable them.  Create a file .htaccess and put it in the same directory. Now add this lines into .htaccess file:

AddType video/x-ms-asx asx
AddType audio/x-pn-realaudio ram

That’s it 😉
